Perfect for those who want to see results and work practically
“I wanted a more physical job,” Vebjørn says with a smile. “It’s better to be tired in body than in mind when the workday is over.”
Vebjørn Brekke had worked with people with mental disabilities in the care sector for several years. But he wanted a change. In 2018, he took the initiative and contacted Brimer directly. From November 2023 he has been chairman of the vacuum section.
Brimer has been growing and developing throughout the period he has worked in Brimer .
Things are moving quickly out here. We have both received our own tools and seen improvements in facilities, ventilation and extraction. It has become more practical and easier for the workers.
Convenient and easy by boat
There is a shuttle boat to Kvamsøy with its own commuter route that is adapted to working hours. Currently, it is the M/S Liv, which also functions as an ambulance boat.
– It's more flexible than the ferry, and it's a nice environment. I get to relax when I need to in the morning, and chat with friends on the way home by boat, says Vebjørn.
Varied environment on safe Kvamsøya
There are many people from different parts of the world who work at Brimer . – We have people from different places, which brings both challenges and benefits. They are eager to work and are on the go. It gives a greater flow to the production and it is nice to have someone who is willing to go the extra mile.
For the local community on Kvamsøy, Brimer of invaluable importance, according to Vebjørn. – Brimer is fundamental to Kvamsøy. Without the company, there would be no people living here, there would be no jobs. It is a cornerstone company, and incredibly important for the security and stability of the island, he says.

For potential new employees, Vebjørn has some encouraging words:
You learn a lot here, especially about fiberglass at this level. It can be a lot to understand, but once you understand it, it loosens up. It's rewarding to understand what's going on and see how every little thing leads to improvement and results.
Vebjørn emphasizes the diversity of the work tasks, from simple jobs like spraying and grinding to more complex tasks like flanging and laminating. Finally, Vebjørn reflects on his time in Brimer :
– The days are never exactly the same, even though the work is predictable. Suddenly there is a lot that needs to be arranged and managed.
